Slime Molds - Trichia varia
Previous Plant    Back to Thumbnails    Next Plant

Slime molds grow from spores in cool, wet weather. Trichia varia slime mold germinates on dead wood including oak. Initially, slime molds are wet, but before long they turn powdery. The powder is made up of millions of spores that will produce the next cycle of slime mold. When moisture and cool weather subside, the slime mold stops developing. This may be the reason that some of these "eggs" (called "capillitium") did not open up.
